Fuel problem

My 03 plate diesel conked out whilst travelling the other day. “Engine fault” was displayed on the dash. Felt like it had run out of fuel. Wouldn’t start. Then, after 30 mins, started but wouldn’t run, conked out again. After one hour started fine and kept running. Had called out rescue after initial breakdown. The fault code was “fuel rail problem”.

As it’s now ‘fine’ and not displaying any error codes, my mechanic can’t work out what’s wrong… because at the moment, nothing is!

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Uneven response at slow speeds

I have enjoyed my 2003 1.9 Xsara Picasso for around five years, often as a tug for my caravan, but mostly and recently all the time driving without the van. It has been well maintained and serviced regularly. It has done 13500 miles.

The only problem that I have found has been the unevenness of the drive, mostly in low gear and at slow speeds. With the accelerator pedal unchanged, the engine can accelerate and slow a small amount but enough to be noticed. I haven’t found it a problem, but, it is an obvious fault. This has been noticeable, but controllable since purchased in 2011.

Has anyone had the same problem and can you tell me the cause and how it might be solved?

06 reg 1.4 lost power and has a misfire

Help desperately needed please.

Got a call from the wife earlier broken down with kids in the car and a boot full of shopping….

Basically the car was running fine, but she noticed it sounded a little odd as she pulled up and parked.

It started ok later but juddered when moving and when came to a hill it didnt have the power to get up it.

I had a look and cant find any obvious faults but the engine fault light is on.

No belts broken. No fluids lost. Oil level and colour fine and not pressurised when took the filler cap off.

I started it briefly and it starts and runs, but sounds like its running on three cylinders.

Any ideas, as i cant afford to splash out a load of cash and its due an mot and service anyway, which wont be cheap.

Battery Charge – Fault Light Flickers On

Hi, the battery charge light has been flickering on for some time now, my mechanic tested the alternater & it’s charging fine, so he said to leave it for now.
Now the Fault light is also flickering on straight after the Battery Fault light.
When it happens there seems to be no loss of any power, most people seem to lose power steering or something.
Is it now time to have the alternater replaced, or could it be something else?
I’m hoping that it’s likely to be a cheaper problem.
It starts first time every time.
It had a new battery & staring motor a couple of years ago.
I am useless with cars, oil, water, tyre pressure & diesel is my limit.
If it does need a new alternater does anyone have any idea of approx cost to have done, it’s on an 02, 2.0 HDI.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks

2.0 HDI 51 reg cut out but now starts, lift pump question

I broke down 2 weeks ago, AA recovered us after not being able to get the car to start.

Assumed it was lift pump as couldn’t hear it when car started and had had a lift pump fail previously.

Went out to car on off chance today and it started 1st time.

Can anyone confirm for me whether the lift pump continues to operate once the engine has started? If not then I suspect it is the fuel relay.

Many thanks.

Xsara picasso 2.0 hdi pulsing interior and exterior lights

So I managed to pick myself up a 52 reg picasso 2.0 hdi with 119k. With 12 month mot for £450. Thought it was a bargain and was chuffed at the price I had paid. Drove it to work 120 mile. Drove absolutely perfect. Until I came to drive home this evening. Still drove fine but at idle the interior lights and headlights, actually every light on the car pulsates. This goes away once moving. Has anyone any idea what this is? I imagine it’s the alternator. Is this easy to change with a bit of technical know how? Also it’s a week and a half until pay day, do you think it’ll survive until then? Thanks loads for the advice.

Engine off noise

Hi I have a 2001 hdi 2.0 my dad has the 04 model same car. When he turns his off it sounds more solid mine seems to not turn off as fast. Just wondered if it’s a problem. Also I plugged the left side of the egr solenoid does this close the egr at all times? I replaced my aircon condenser without removing bumper and not works fine. 🙂

Identifying a missing pipe / duct

Afternoon all, a little help if you would be so kind.

The car is a 54 plate 1.6 diesel Picasso, whilst making inspections on the engine with the intention of doing my own oil and filter(s) service I noticed a gap in what looks like the air inlet duct.

I’m assuming that the rectangular port on the engine should connect to the down facing inlet you can see in the photos.

If so does anyone know a part number for it?

Thanks in advanced.

Apologies I couldn’t get the uploader to work, images are hosted below;

New Picasso Owner with Fan that only runs for a second or two!

Hi all

As the title says, my cooling fan only seems to come on in bursts for maybe 1 or 2 seconds and then stops

I have spent the last 2 days reading what feels like every single post on here about the infamous overheating issue

I start the car and let it idle. Turn on the ac and turn the blower to 1 inside on dash

After a minute or 2, the fan cuts in for about 1 second, maybe 2…

This repeats over and over and eventually I get the warning on the dash and the beeping to stop the car (This is all while just parked and not moving)

Before the warning, the temp shows as 3 bars on the dash and then shoots up to the top, gives the message, fan kicks in for about 2 seconds and its gone again!!

While I have looked at all the posts here, there are very few that mention this erratic behaviour with the cooling fan…most seem to either run, or don’t run at all

I really have NO idea where to start or how to even diagnose in my situation and would appreciate any feedback please

Sorry! Forgot to add…..It’s a 2004 model with 1.6 petrol engine and has AC </EDIT>
